Growing Up (3/28/16)

Our boys are growing up.  We set up the top bunk of our new bunk beds for Porter and Jonas finally got moved into a real bed (crib, no more pack n play).  We'll see how night one goes.  Jonas had a little trouble initially going to sleep, but he's sleeping now.  My biggest concern is that when he tries to rock himself back to sleep, which he does to go to sleep and fall back asleep during the night, he's not going to be able to do it since the crib railings are not as forgiving as the walls of a pack n play.  Wish us luck!

Lifelong Friends (3/24)

My dear friend Whit came to visit Utah for a family reunion. I haven't seen her in at least 5 years.  I love her!  And I loved getting to meet her cute kids and introducing her to my kids.
You know it's a life long friend when you can pick up and talk about anything.  She is basically part of the Lower family.
Sadly, I was talking too much to remember to take a picture.

Vocabulary

Jonas says the following words:
Mama
Dada
Ash
Ball
Hi
Milk (signs)
Please (signs)
And I'm pretty sure he said "bonk" when I said it.

He has also caught the reading bug.  He will pick out a book for you to read him.  He brings it to you and puts it in your hand.  He has his favorites.  I'm pretty sure his most favorite is, "Goodnight Gorilla".  He also likes, "The Big Red Barn".  He sits and flips through books by himself too.

At the library after story time.

Going batty can happen in < 1 hour

This morning I had to touch up some paint in the office during Jonas' nap so we can start getting everything moved back in.  Since the touch ups were near the ceiling and the floor is already in, I didn't have any painting for Porter to help with.  Porter clearly wanted my attention and naughtiness ensued.  First, he dropped the drywall tape roll he in the paint can. Then he tried to knock over the paint can.  Next he made a mess with the yogurt.  I didn't realize that yogurt and Legos went together.  But, apparently it's fun to submerge Lego people in your yogurt while consuming a 32 oz container of yogurt.  The final straw was when he took the paintbrush I had just cleaned that was still wet and ran off with it.  When I YELLED at him to stop, he flung it into the living room.  There was white paint tinged drops splattered all over the wall, our canvas family photo, the chair and some of the bookshelf.  I admit, this was not a proud mom moment for me.  I spanked him and put him in time out.  I had to apologize and hold him tight.
Later when we were talking and I was asking what I could do to not get so frustrated, he said I could put myself in time out for at least a minute.  Smart kid. I agree.

No cars

Whenever we cross the street I tell Porter to look both ways for cars before crossing.  He generally says, "No cars" or "No cars that way", while he points each direction. Today as we were walking to our neighbors, I told him to look for cars and sweet Jonas pointed his sweet little finger each direction as if he were looking for cars.  Smarty pants.

36 just like that (2/22/16)

I turned 36.  Wow.  I am now closer to 40, than 30.  It was a great day.  First thing in the am I went for a run with Adrianne.  Then David arranged for a babysitter so we could go skiing together.  I haven't skied in 2 years, so there was some nervous excitement.  Once those skis were on, I felt great and actually did much better than I thought.  I made David go down the bunny hill with me once just to make sure I felt comfortable.  Then we headed up the Majestic lift.  We did a green run and then David said I was handling myself well and we should try something tougher.  So, we did some blue runs.  I felt surprisingly good and only had one steep part that made me nervous.  It was so much fun and it was great to be out with David.  At one point I tried to avoid a jump and without realizing it, I turned right into another jump, got some air, scared myself and even though I landed on my skis, I fell.  David and I had a good laugh.  So, then next time down that run I decided to try the jump again.  This time I was prepared, was going slower and landed it.  Although, because I was going so much slower, I didn't get quite as much air.

That night David cooked dinner and the Kirry's stopped by and ended up staying for dinner.  My birthday was a perfect day.
Then the following day, David made arrangements for us to go to the temple.  We unfortunately missed the endowment session, but were able to do sealings.  We learned about how they actually make the design in the carpet.  Someone comes in and hand cuts the pattern in the carpet.  Pretty interesting.
