Porterisms

We love Porter.  He is such a smart, inquisitive, energetic boy.  He knows what he wants and is working on his patience until he gets what he wants.  But, he's also learning that you don't always get what you want.  This is a hard lesson, but sometimes he amazes me when there is no full fledged tantrum and he can move on. This doesn't always happen, but sometimes it does.  I am always so proud when it does and it's as if he is really listening to me and allowing me to reason with him.

He remembers everything and will talk about past events or things coming up.
At church he loves to lead the music, take the sacrament and then the talks get a little long for him.  He is usually heard saying "nursery" about 20 times before sacrament meeting is over.   In nursery he loves singing time and of course snack time, particularly marshmallows.

During nursery today he knew exactly what would come next after each activity.  He would be the first one up ready to move on to the next thing.  It was a riot.  He hurriedly cleaned up the toys when it was time for singing time.  Then he went into the room, put his mat on the floor and sat and waited for everyone else to come in.  Then when they were singing the goodbye song that ends singing time he was up putting his mat away and heading into the next room for snacks. He even got into the snack box and pulled out the marshmallows.  Fortunately I contained his excitement and he sat with his hands clasped while he waited for the nursery leaders to bring the snacks around.  This is how he sits when you tell him to be patient.

He really is growing up.  At night when he falls asleep I just look at his sweet face and tell him I love him.  I am lucky to be his mom.  I think of the ways I can teach him and protect him.  I hope I am doing a good job.  He has an amazing dad that loves him so much.  He is a lucky kiddo.

Winter has arrived

Fall came and went quick and it looks like winter is here to stay.  David's been commuting by bike, so once the weather turned cold, cold Porter and I have started taking him to work in the am.  We might as well since we are up.  Porter gets bundled up for the drive.  We're only in the car about 15 min, but I don't want the little man to freeze.

Outdoor Work

We have been raking up the leaves that finally dumped and Porter has been helping out.

33 weeks (November 5th)

Today I hit 33 weeks pregnant!  I'm excited to be nearing the end, meet our little guy, watch Porter as a big brother and see what life as a mother of two will be like.  I'm a little anxious about the lack of sleep, finding a new routine again and making sure Porter still feels loved and giving him the attention he needs.  I know it's going to be a major adjustment.

Look at that big booty:).

Grateful

Tonight for FHE we made a grateful tree that we will add to until Thanksgiving.  There are so many things to be grateful for!

I am grateful for these two guys! Best part of my day is being with them.

Me at 34 weeks, 5 days.

Baby Prep

I'm This pregnancy was going smoothly like the last one until bam.... Heartburn, uncomfortableness and shortness of breath.  I am like a dog in heat with this panting.  I am ready to be done.  Fortunately I know it could still be a lot worse, so I try not to complain too much.
The baby is currently breech, so we are hoping for a flip before the 26th.  If not, I'll be privileged to try out external cephalic version, manual external attempted turning.  Sounds painful.  My doctor said if the baby doesn't flip we'll be doing a c-section.  Only pro to that...we can plan to have he baby come before Christmas Eve.  I'm counting on the baby flipping, we have time... 5 1/2 weeks.

We have been prepping Porter for the invasion of his world.  I'll admit, I am more than mildly concerned for his world to be rocked and his devoted mommy time to disappear.  He may not take this well.

Our prep has included the following conversations:

1) What areas you can't touch on the baby:  eyes, mouth, head (specifically the soft spot), Porter says, "nice", meaning be nice

2) What the baby can eat/drink: only milk from mom or a bottle (Porter likes to add, "No cheese", one of his favorite foods)

3) How can you help with the baby: get diapers, give "huggies" and maybe a bottle

We got it covered, right?!

Porter has also picked up a new awesome phrase that he says frequently, "No way".

Making breakfast of pancakes and ice cream.  Breakfast of champions.

Letters to Santa.

Ready for no shave Movember.

Trying our hand at homemade play dough.  A great success!

Loves jumping in bed like a little monkey.

Disaster Zone

Tonight while making dinner I gave up on trying to keep Porter from making a mess.  I didn't have energy to make dinner and monitor his every move.  So, the end product consisted of 4 boxes of cereal poured all over the floor, peas dumped and smashed on the floor and the little man with the broom and dustpan "cleaning it up", which was more like crunching all the cereal into smithereens and pushing it under the rug.  Awesome.

Here is a picture of only a small fraction of the damage before he was done:

Fortunately he does do things daily to redeem himself.  Today I asked him three different times who he wanted to have come over to play.  His answer each time, "Jesus".

Counterproductive

I attempt to do work with Porter, but it sometimes becomes counter productive.  Today we raked.  Or I should say I raked the leaves into piles and Porter unraked the leaves.  I gave up:).

Our friend Gayle bought Porter the most adorable pajamas.  They are perfect for Christmas, but Gayle came over tonight and wanted to see him in his pjs.

Two sides

Porter can be extremely silly and extremely serious.

Waiting for my Dr's Appt:

Checking out the toy catalog:

Treats

Porter loves treats just like his momma.  Today I found him digging through the Captian Crunch cereal to pick out the crunch berries. Or as he says, "treats".

Porter's First 3 word sentence...

"Don't do that."

Oops!

Zoo time

While the weather is still nice we hit up the zoo.  We basically had the place to ourselves so Porter could roam freely.

The gorilla is still one of his favorites.

Today Porter once again amazed me with his memory.
- drove by REI and he started frantically saying bike over and over again. He has seen the bikes there in the past
- we were at an intersection before a park we have been to once.  But Porter remembered there was a park up ahead
- during the same drive, as we were pulling up to another intersection, he remembered the horse on top of a building

That time again

David is taking another set of boards again tomorrow.  His third and final set... At least until he has to recertify.  We are proud of him. He has worked so hard for so many years.  Tomorrow he will take the critical care boards and I know he'll pass.  Porter and I made him a little note:

The rest of the day was pent taking care of the little man.  He is sick again and the poor kiddo has diarrhea. He tells me every time he poops and then he knows he needs "creamie" on his bottom so it won't be sore.  He also asks for medicine when he doesn't feel well and sometimes if we don't act fast enough, he tries to pull the chair over to the cabinet its in to get it himself.  Since we didn't do much today we took a walk tonight to get some fresh air.

Porter trying to get an apple from the tree.  He loves to do this at the house around the corner.
