#1

We taught Porter how to put up 1 finger to show people how old he is and when I can get him to perform on the video, I'll post it.  He is also talking a lot more.  He know consciously says " ma ma" and "da da".  And today he was trying to say apple, but it sounded more like "app".

This is the picture David sent me at work this am.

Bubba

I am working tonight, so I figured I should update the blog.  After looking at the pictures on my phone, I am realizing I really need to start taking pictures with our camera, they are so much better.

Dinosaur land at City Creek.

Scripture study with Dad.  Everyday we tell Porter a story from the scriptures.  Hopefully he learns something:).

He used to play with this toy flat on the ground.  Then we put the legs on it so he could pull himself up.  Next he would push it around when he was learning to walk.  Now he is learning to climb on it!  I'll admit, I am worried about the climbing phase.

 Love.  They are best buds.

Check out this cute Dr.  Our neighbor gave him this onesie and it is already too small for him.  And the picture is awful because it's hard to get him to sit still.

Zest for Life

If only I went through life like Porter:
When Porter is being silly, he squints his eyes like this.

Playing at City Creek.

Tonight we tried to go to Alta to meet the Pratt's and celebrate Karla's birthday, but  the snow started coming down pretty good and the roads were slick. We thought it would be best not to get stuck up there, so we turned around.  We ended up meeting Ginny Ulicny at the Bombay House.  It was a much needed visit.

The sickies

I think Porter and I get sick once a month and today was the day.  It is hard being a mom when I am sick, but for good or bad being sick together is so much better.  We took naps at the same time and luckily we weren't too sick.  There was only 1 puking episode from Porter.

Even when Porter is sick, he still plays hard.  He just sleeps more (almost 3 1/2 hours of naps), eats less, cuddles more and has super stinky diapers.

We did go on a walk this afternoon and it was a perfect day to be outside.

Busy body

All during church Porter just goes and goes.  Besides that being his baseline activity level, I think he is trying to combat how tired he feels since he has to miss his morning nap.  By the time we walk home, he can't even make it home without falling asleep.  We live less than 10 min from church:).

Attempting to escape during Sunday School.

This only happens on Sundays after church.

His second haircut.  I'm not sure if it can even really be called that.  Both haircuts consisted of a little trim off the back and this haircut was just a little section in the middle of his neck resembling the early stages of rat tail or possibly mullet... Both major offenders in my mind.

Life with 3 children

I babysat for a friend today and experienced the chaos of having 3 young kids.  We got out of the house and went to the zoo.  Luckily David could break away from work to meet us.

I think Porter is ready for a sibling.  He loves playing with all the kids.

Early love

I babysat a friends little girl today.  Porter gets excited to see Emma Jane.  She's a few months younger.

This picture was actually for his dad to wish him luck on his first day back on service.  He's carrying a little heart to remind David to take good care of those baby and kiddo hearts .

Showing off his climbing skills.  She was impressed.

Reaching down to help her up.

When I was reading them books, there may have been a little hand holding.  So sweet.

Porter was busy with the ladies today.  He had his play date in the morning and we went to a 1st birthday party for another friend, Hattie, in the evening.  Hattie is one of Porter's first friends.  Her family lived in our building in Boston and moved out here last summer just for the year.

Gotta love that snotty nose.

Little boy

Every time I look at Porter I can't believe how big he has gotten.  He isn't a baby anymore.

We built forts.  We play hide and go seek.  And a little peekaboo.

He takes the "dog" for a walk.  Porter used to pick him up nicely when he fell over.  Now he tries to drag him up by the leash and when he won't stand upright he gets frustrated and throws him down. We're going to have to work on that.  This picture looks like he's telling pups what's up!

And he squeals for joy in the bath.

I love watching Porter grow and learn.

Bring on Spring

Today it felt like winter might stick around a little longer.  We haven't had a bad winter, but I am looking forward to real spring weather so we can enjoy being outside longer without feeling like my fingers have turned into numb, wooden sausages.

The padded elevator.  For have only a few rented units in our building, we sure see a lot of padding.

Happy St. Paddy's Day

A little leprechaun visited our house sometime over night and turned our milk green and when we ate our pancakes they were green too.  Porter didn't notice or didn't care.

Then to make it feel like we were in Ireland, the day was chilly, overcast and windy.  Before it got too cold we enjoyed a trip to the park.  Porter went down the slide all by himself for the first time without me even holding his hand.  He loved it.

Family Hike

We tried a new hike today, for most of the hike we were all alone and even saw a few deer.  It was windy and chilly, but Porter didn't care.

During our hike we learned a few things:

First of all, sometimes a path may look hard, more challenging than you think you can handle, but once you start down the path, you'll notice it isn't as hard as you'd anticipated and you have the ability to conquer it.
Second, we talked about a scene from the book, "The Joy Luck Club".  This young girl is a talented chess player and unbeaten in her small town.  She is asked to compete in a chess tournament with many people from other areas.  She is worried of losing and shaming her family, so she fakes sick.  Her mother catches on and says, "Shame you fall down when no one push you."
